Monkey Wrench 2: Trained Monkey

This January, I participated in the SF Bay Area Global Game Jam 2015 in Oakland, California. It was a creatively intriguing weekend as we were challenged with getting a complete game up and running in less than seventytwo hours. I worked with a terrifically talented group of individuals who worked tirelessly to bring you our entry, Monkey Wrench 2: Trained Monkey. Enjoy!
The overall theme for this year's Jam was, "What do we do now?" While vague to say the least, our team was able to boil our plethora of ideas down to a manageable and conceivable 2D item based puzzle game. I personally created all of the pixel sprites as well as the scrolling background, while our other artist created the train car interiors and some additional assets. Our designer and team leader helped create the framework for item interaction and locations throughout the train. Finally, and most importantly, we had a crack three man team of programmers who pulled late hours to get the game functioning in all it's glory as it is today.
In the end, the Global Game Jam was a great experience, and a fantastic opportunity to come together with strangers and meld creative minds to produce something new and unique, birthed of spontaneity. Monkey Wrench 2: Trained Monkey was even voted "Best Design" at our Jam by the other participants!
Bonus Fun Fact: A majority of our ideas for the basis of Monkey Wrench 2: Trained Monkey originated from the film, Snowpiercer.
